Scheduled Tasks
Some work doesn’t need you watching it, and doesn’t need a daily alarm to remind you — like checking every morning what the key takeaways were in yesterday’s Lansenger group chats, turning the week’s work into a weekly-report draft every Friday, or tracking a policy document for new developments every afternoon.
Scheduled Tasks are built for exactly these needs. Just tell LanMate in one sentence “what to do” and “when to do it,” and it starts automatically at the time you specify, leaving the results for you to review when done.
What Is a Scheduled Task
A Scheduled Task is a task that runs automatically on a set schedule. When the time comes, LanMate runs the task instruction automatically: each run can create a new conversation or continue in a conversation you specify. The execution process and results are saved in the conversation, ready to revisit anytime.
Typical uses include:
- Daily digest: Every morning, automatically summarize the key points from yesterday’s Lansenger group discussions.
- Weekly report generation: Every Friday afternoon, organize the week’s work into a weekly-report draft.
- Recurring tracking: At a fixed time each day, follow up on the latest developments of a policy document or a watched item.
The supported time rules are flexible: a fixed time every day, certain days each week, certain dates each month, or a one-time scheduled trigger — all work.
Creating a Scheduled Task
Describe Your Need in a Conversation
You don’t need to go to a dedicated settings page — just describe your need and schedule directly in the conversation input box:
- In the input box, state “what to do” and “when to do it” in one sentence, e.g., “Every Friday at 6 PM, organize this week’s work highlights mentioned in the Lansenger groups into a weekly report.”
- After parsing your description, LanMate generates a Scheduled Task card showing the task name, execution cycle, current status, and more.
- Confirm the content is correct and enable the task. It then enters the pending-trigger state and runs automatically when due — no extra action needed.
Describe both the task content and the schedule clearly, and the generated task will better match your expectations.
Setting the Execution Cycle
When creating or editing a task, you can set the following frequency rules:
| Frequency | To Configure | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | Time | Runs once a day at the specified time |
| Weekly | Day(s) of week (multi-select) + time | Runs on the selected days each week |
| Monthly | Date(s) (multi-select) + time | Runs on the selected dates each month |
| Interval | Day(s) of week (multi-select) + interval | Runs at a fixed interval within the selected days; the interval unit is minutes or hours |
| One-time | Date + time | Runs only once at the specified time; the task completes automatically afterward |
Notes when configuring:
- For weekly and monthly frequencies, select at least one day.
- The minimum interval for the interval frequency is 1 minute.
- The execution date of a one-time task cannot be earlier than today.
Choosing an Execution Mode
Each time the task runs, the conversation proceeds in one of three modes:
| Execution Mode | Description |
|---|---|
| New conversation | Creates a new conversation for every run |
| Fixed conversation | Creates a dedicated conversation named after the task when the task is created; every subsequent run continues in that conversation. Deleting the task doesn’t affect the conversation |
| Continue conversation | Pick an existing past conversation; every run continues in that conversation |
Optional Configuration
- Connectors: Choose the MCP services used during task execution; multi-select supported.
- Model: Assign a specific AI model for the task to use when executing.
Managing and Viewing Scheduled Tasks
Task List
The Scheduled Tasks entry in the left navigation bar gathers all tasks you’ve created. The page has two tabs:
| Tab | Content | Ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled | All created tasks | Newest created first |
| Completed | Past execution records of tasks | Most recently executed first |
Each task card under “Scheduled” shows the task name, execution frequency, and task description. A task has two states:
- Enabled: The task is live and runs automatically at the set times.
- Disabled: The task is paused and won’t run automatically; its configuration is kept, and it can be re-enabled anytime.
Pausing and Resuming
Toggle the switch on the task card to switch between enabled and disabled — the switch takes effect immediately. Disable a task when you temporarily don’t need it, and turn it back on anytime; once re-enabled, the task continues running on its original configuration.
Run Now
Don’t want to wait for the next trigger time? Click Run Now to trigger the task manually — it creates a conversation and runs immediately. This doesn’t affect the task’s original schedule, and the execution record still appears in the “Completed” list.
Editing a Task
When you open a task’s edit window, its current configuration is filled in automatically. You can change the task name, task instruction, execution cycle, and more; changes take effect immediately after saving. Before you save, the task keeps running on its original configuration.
Deleting a Task
When you’re sure a task is no longer needed, you can remove it entirely. Deletion requires a second confirmation and cannot be undone; execution records the task has produced remain in the “Completed” list.
Viewing Execution Records and Results
Every run of a task generates an execution record. To view one:
- Open Scheduled Tasks and switch to the “Completed” tab.
- Find the execution record in the list — it shows the task name, execution time, and more.
- Click View Conversation to jump to the conversation produced by that run and see the full execution process and results.
Notes
- Keep the client running: Scheduled Tasks depend on the local client. If the computer is off or asleep at trigger time, that run is marked as timed out, and the next trigger resumes normally. To keep tasks on schedule, keep your computer on and LanMate running.
- One-time tasks complete automatically after running: After a one-time task finishes, it disappears from the “Scheduled” list; its execution record can be found in the “Completed” list.
- Disabled tasks can also run manually: Recurring tasks (daily, weekly, monthly, interval) can still be triggered manually with “Run Now” while disabled; the task stays disabled afterward.
- Deletion is irreversible: Confirm you no longer need a task before deleting it; deletion doesn’t affect the conversations and execution records already produced.
